Progressives do not work well on the computer.
That’s really it. You’ll hear many opticians and optometrists often say that progressives work well for all focal lengths; distance, near, and intermediate/computer. The truth is that they’re pretty lousy for anyone working on a desktop monitor (and even worse for multiple monitors). A progressive lens wearer will be viewing their monitors through the distance optics of their lens, and in order to bring things in focus, you’ll see them leaning their head back to get their line of sight aligned with the small intermediate channel of their lenses. How does cranking your neck back for 8+hours a day, over 20 years, feel when your 60? A Single vision intermediate lens set with a focal length at arms length works so much better than a standard Far/Near progressive for extended monitor workload. This holds especially true for those working with multiple monitors, as a typical progressive will add some mild peripheral blur at the typical intermediate range. A single vision lens, set to your preferred focal length, with a mild blue filtering tint is so much more comfortable to work in all day.
