Hyperopia (Farsighted)
Hyperopia, or "Farsightedness" is very common and typically means a person can see better in the distance than at near. When the lens of the eye is in the relaxed state, the image a person is looking at naturally focuses behind the retina (as in the top center photo). If a person is farsighted, they can focus or flex their lens to clear the image onto the retina. This process is also known as accommodation. Farsighted individuals usually see very well until around the age of 40, when the muscles that focus the natural lens tend to lose enough accommodative power to clear a near image.
A farsighted individual may not need reading glasses until their forties, but will often benefit from some sort of correction for computer or near work.
